The close of Harry Potter’s tale
So I finished “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows” last night. As with all the books in the Harry Potter series, I thoroughly enjoyed it. J. K. Rowling’s writing is like a favorite shirt or pair of jeans for me; so comfortable and familiar that I feel completely unhindered by it, gliding through 350 pages at a sitting, pausing only to get enough sleep for the next day. There were many poignant moments, and having followed these characters for seven volumes intensified them all the more. It’s a bit sad to know that the tale of that magical world has finished, but at the same time I have that sense of it being complete.
Agree wholeheartedly. I will miss the characters, the writing. I’m WAY behind on the movies, but that’s not that big of a deal to me. I’m sure that at some point, I will re-read the series of books, perhaps when my kids are at an age to be interested.
I hope that she has more books in her head and that she chooses to share them with us.

I have to disagree with both of you. The bright spots in the series for me was the rather deft way she handled the little surprising twists that developed in each book. Book 7 wasn’t “bad” but it certainly didn’t feel like the romp, or the adventure the others did. Book 7 felt cumbersome; especially since she had to resort to using two whole chapters devoted solely to exposition. That’s just…boring. “And now we sit down with Dumbledore, reader, for 20 pages so I, the author, can tell you the plot because I can’t squeeze this information in any other way.” From an editorial perspective, that felt a bit sloppy. But it _is_ a children’s book, so I think it still works well as such. On the up side, I really do think this book will easily make the best movie (given the right director) because you could cut out about 100 pages of wandering in the woods and really tighten the story up nicely for the screen.
