Jimmy Crack Corn
“Jimmy crack corn and I don’t care…”
Just why is that? Is the quality of fresh produce such that the author is numb to this? Is it an indifference to the plight of slave laborers in an agrarian economy?
It’s tough to say; I think the answer lies in this whole cracking of the corn…
Let’s be honest, I don’t care diddle for Jimmy. Decide for yourself whether or not he is important to you, and then his little hobbies will either grow or shrink in importance as well.
The computer should be here today. FedEx promised it was getting delivered today (friday) but I don’t trust them. We’ll see. I’ll let you know.

For some unknown reason I was awoken with the prase running in my mind, ” Jimmy Crack Corn and I don’t care”. I asked my husband of 60+ years and being from the south what does it mean. He remember singing the song as a child but did not know. He said he took it to mean eating craze corn nuts and making a noise and the other person don’t care about the noise of the eating nuts.
I remember singing the song as a happy child in Texas but it never accured to me to ask my dad who was born in East Texas in 1898.
After typing in the title, I was able to locate several searches. Thank you internet to clear the meaning up for me. But I still can’t understand why I woke up with this song in my mind.
